TMU President Chien-Huang Lin Leads Delegation to the U.S. to Visit Partner Institutions Case Western Reserve University and the University of Southern California
Taipei Medical University (TMU) President Chien-Huang Lin led a delegation including Vice President Chieh-Hsin Wu (吳介信), Academician Hsing-Jien Kung (龔行健), Vice Superintendent of Shuang Ho Hospital Chao-Jung Hu (胡朝榮), and Dean of Global Engagement Pei-Shan Tsai (蔡佩珊) on a visit to Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) on February 28 and March 1, 2018, followed by a visit to the University of Southern California (USC) on March 5.
During this trip, President Lin was invited to CWRU to sign the renewal of their university-level partnership agreement. CWRU President Barbara R. Snyder specially hosted a welcome dinner at her residence, inviting key university executives and principal investigators involved in joint research projects with TMU. Over the two-day itinerary, the TMU delegation met with leaders from several vital departments to discuss future research collaborations, including the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Department of Genetics, the School of Engineering, the School of Medicine, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

The delegation also engaged in discussions with CWRU's Technology Transfer Office regarding future industry-academia collaborations with TMU's Office of Business Development. They toured the university's newly implemented HoloLens wearable mixed-reality devices, the Sears think[box] student innovation and maker space, and the Health Education Campus, which was under construction. Furthermore, the delegation held a review meeting with the Clinical & Translational Science Collaborative (CTSC) for their third year of joint research. During the meeting, both parties agreed to advance to the next phase of research collaborations and confirmed that the CWRU review committee would visit Taiwan in May for the selection process.
On March 5, the delegation visited USC, meeting with the Deans of the School of Pharmacy, the Keck School of Medicine, and the Viterbi School of Engineering. TMU's College of Pharmacy and USC's School of Pharmacy have an existing dual-degree agreement in "Regulatory Science," with the first student slated to enroll in 2018. The Dean of the USC School of Pharmacy expressed strong confidence in the successful partnership between the two schools and suggested signing another pharmacy dual-degree agreement to expand educational exchanges. The delegation also discussed potential future dual-degree agreements and broader research and educational collaborations with the Deans of Medicine and Engineering, aiming to foster an even closer relationship with USC in the future.
